Foraging walks

(for scheduled plant walks, see the events page or check on Instagram)

Do you ever wonder about the plants growing in your neighborhood?

Explore your surroundings with an herbalist and learn about the foods and medicines you’ve been passing by every day.

Topics can be customized to the event, and may include:

  • Edible wild plants
  • Local medicinal herbs
  • Botany and plant identification
  • Ethical and respectful harvesting practices

A plant walk can happen anywhere! Tree boxes, railroad tracks, and alleys can be just as interesting as your local park or woodland. Walks usually last 1-3 hours depending on the interest level of the group. Kids are always welcome.

I’ve done plant walks for individuals, families, organizations, schools, and neighborhood groups who want to explore their surroundings. The optimal group size is under 20.

Here’s what one participant had to say:

“Thank you so much for the plant walk and consultation. I was very impressed with your knowledge of plants and your ability to convey the information clearly.  In reviewing my notes I found that we encountered and you explained more than 20 different types of plants growing in along the course of a four-block walk in my neighborhood. All my expectations of the walk were exceeded. Now I know more of what is in my own backyard, so to speak.”

The Events and Classes page will occasionally list scheduled walks that are open to the public. I usually post these walks one to two weeks in advance, so check regularly OR sign up for my newsletter on the right side of this page to receive walk announcements.
